Old rewirable fuse boards, cramped metal boxes, boards without RCD protection — we replace them with modern RCBO consumer units that protect every circuit independently. Fully Part P certified.

If any of these match your property, a replacement isn't just an upgrade — it's a safety necessity.
Ceramic fuse holders with wire fuses offer no RCD protection and are not compliant with current regulations. Insurers increasingly require a modern consumer unit.
Get a free quote →Overloaded or worn MCBs that trip under normal load are a sign the board is no longer adequate for the demands of the property. A new board resolves this permanently.
Get a quote →A single shared RCD means one fault cuts power to half the property. RCBO boards protect every circuit individually — a fault on one trips only that circuit.
Get a quote →Older consumer units use plastic enclosures that offer no fire containment. Modern metal-clad units are required by BS 7671 to limit the spread of fire if an internal fault ignites.
Get a quote →A consumer unit (fuse board) is the heart of your electrical installation. Older boards with rewirable fuses or a single shared RCD leave circuits dangerously unprotected. A modern RCBO board gives every circuit its own individual protection — a fault on one circuit trips only that circuit, not your whole property.
RCBO — individual protection
Each circuit gets its own combined RCD and MCB. A fault on one ring main or lighting circuit trips only that circuit, leaving the rest of the property live.
Full board swap in a single visit
We remove the old consumer unit, install the new board, reconnect and label every circuit, test the installation to BS 7671, and hand you the Part P certificate.
Surge protection (SPD)
We fit a Type 2 surge protection device alongside your new board, safeguarding TVs, appliances, and smart home equipment from damaging voltage spikes.
Fixed price — no surprises
We quote the full job before we start. Price includes labour, the board, all accessories, and the Part P registration. Nothing added on after.

Any electrician can fit a new board. We test it properly, certify it correctly, and make sure the installation is safe before we leave.
Every consumer unit we fit is tested to current wiring regulations before we sign it off — insulation resistance, continuity, RCD operation times, and loop impedance. Not box-ticking — actual testing.
As a registered Part P contractor we self-certify all consumer unit work. You receive the correct certificate without needing to involve the council or pay a third-party inspection fee.
The price we quote covers everything: the board, RCBOs, cable ties, labels, testing, and registration. No add-ons, no variation charges, no invoice shock.
Most consumer unit replacements are completed in 4–6 hours. We offer same-day fitting where urgent, or next-day scheduled appointments to suit you.
Fixed price, certified, completed in a single day.
We assess the existing installation — number of circuits, cable condition, earthing arrangement, and meter tails. You receive a fixed price covering the board, labour, testing, and Part P certification.
Power is isolated at the meter. The old consumer unit is removed carefully, incoming cables are labelled, and any defects found in the existing wiring are flagged before the new board is fitted.
The new consumer unit is fitted, every circuit connected to its individual RCBO, and the full installation tested to BS 7671 — insulation resistance, earth loop impedance, RCD operation, and polarity.
We issue the Minor Works or Installation Certificate, register the work under Part P building regulations, and walk you through the new board before we leave.
From a straightforward like-for-like swap to a full RCBO upgrade — we cover it all.
Full replacement with an individual RCBO per circuit — the gold standard for domestic installations and now expected by insurers and surveyors.
Where budget is a consideration, a dual RCD split-load board replaces an unprotected board and provides RCD coverage across all circuits in two groups.
After every new board we carry out a complete inspection and test to BS 7671, including insulation resistance, earth loop impedance, and RCD operation times.
All consumer unit work is notifiable under Part P. As an approved contractor we self-certify and register the work — you receive the certificate, not a bill for council involvement.
We can add a Type 2 surge protection device to your new consumer unit, protecting sensitive electronics throughout the property from voltage spikes.
We inspect and replace meter tails and earthing arrangements where required, ensuring the supply to your new consumer unit is correctly rated and earthed.
Replacing a consumer unit means removing the existing fuse board and fitting a new one, reconnecting every circuit individually to its own protective device, testing the complete installation to BS 7671, and issuing the Part P certificate. The property is without power for the duration — typically 4–6 hours for a standard domestic installation.
An RCBO board gives each circuit its own combined RCD and MCB. A fault on one circuit trips only that breaker, leaving the rest of the property live. A split-load board uses two shared RCDs covering half the circuits each — lower cost, but a fault on one RCD trips half the property. For most domestic properties we recommend RCBO as the safer and more convenient option.
Replacing the consumer unit does not involve rewiring the property. We reconnect your existing circuits to the new board. If we find wiring defects during the installation — loose connections, deteriorated insulation, incorrect earthing — we will flag them and quote separately. We never leave a safety issue unreported.
Consumer unit replacement is notifiable work under Part P of the Building Regulations. As an approved contractor we self-certify, meaning we register the work directly with the relevant body and issue your installation certificate. You don't need to involve the council or pay for a separate inspection. The certificate is important for insurance, remortgaging, and property sales.
A straightforward like-for-like replacement on a standard 3–4 bedroom property typically takes 4–6 hours. Larger properties, installations with more circuits, or those requiring remedial work to existing wiring may take longer. We will give you an accurate time estimate when we survey the job.
