Intermittent trips, unexplained power loss, flickering lights, RCDs that won't stay reset — our engineers use proper test equipment to find the actual fault, not guess and reset.

If something feels wrong with your electrics, don't ignore it. These are the most common faults we find and fix.
An RCD that trips repeatedly has a leakage fault somewhere on the circuit. We isolate each circuit in turn to find exactly what's drawing the trip — then fix it.
Call us now →Faults that come and go are the hardest to find without proper equipment. We use insulation resistance testing and thermal methods to catch problems other engineers miss.
Call us now →A circuit that's gone dead without a tripped breaker points to a wiring break or connection failure. We trace it end to end with continuity testing.
Call us now →Heat from a socket, switch, or fuse board indicates a high-resistance connection or overload. This is a fire risk — we make it safe first, then diagnose.
Call us now →Burning smell or visible scorch marks? Switch off at the consumer unit and call us immediately. Don't wait to see if it goes away.
Most electrical problems have a root cause that a simple reset won't fix. Tripped RCDs that keep coming back, flickering lights that come and go, dead circuits with no obvious reason — these need systematic testing with proper instruments. We trace the fault to its source and repair it properly the first time.
Systematic, not guesswork
We test methodically — insulation resistance, continuity, loop impedance, RCD operation — until we have a clear picture of what's wrong and where.
Diagnosed and repaired same visit
Our fully stocked vans carry the parts for the most common faults. Once the cause is found, we quote and fix in the same visit wherever possible.
Clear cost before we start
Diagnostic visit fee covers the test and quote. You know the repair price before we touch anything. No surprises on the invoice.

Any electrician can reset a tripped switch. We find out why it tripped — and make sure it doesn't happen again.
We carry Megger insulation testers, loop impedance testers, RCD testers, and thermal detection. The right instruments find faults that a visual check alone will miss.
Every engineer holds City & Guilds 2391 diagnostic qualifications. We understand how circuits behave under fault conditions — and what the test results actually mean.
Diagnostic visit fee is fixed. Any repair work is quoted clearly before we begin. No surprise charges, no inflated labour rates, no invoice shock.
We offer same-day diagnostics for urgent faults and next-day scheduling for non-urgent issues. If it needs to be sorted now, we will come now.
Methodical, transparent, and resolved properly the first time.
We start with a thorough visual check of the consumer unit, accessible wiring, sockets, and switches — looking for signs of overheating, loose connections, or poor previous work.
Using calibrated test instruments we measure insulation resistance, earth continuity, loop impedance, and RCD operation times. This pinpoints the fault circuit and location.
We identify the exact location — whether it's a connection, a section of cable, a faulty accessory, or a deteriorating appliance drawing a trip. You'll know exactly what we found.
We explain what we found in plain English and give you a fixed price. Once approved, the repair is completed the same visit wherever possible, with Part P certification where required.
If something's wrong with your electrics and you can't work out why — that's exactly what we do.
Persistent RCD trips are traced to the exact circuit and fault location using insulation resistance and leakage current testing.
Lights that flicker, circuits that come and go — we use thermal and resistance testing to catch loose connections and failing cables.
A circuit with no power and no tripped breaker has a break or failed connection somewhere. We trace it to the exact point.
Worn MCBs, failed RCDs, corroded terminals — the consumer unit is central to your whole installation and we test every component.
Degraded cable insulation causes leakage faults that are nearly impossible to find visually. Our Megger testers reveal them quickly.
Power lost to one room or one ring main? We identify whether it's a supply issue, a wiring fault, or a failed accessory and repair it same visit.
Fault finding is the process of systematically testing an electrical installation to identify why it's behaving incorrectly. This involves measuring insulation resistance to find cable degradation, testing earth continuity to confirm safe paths to earth, checking RCD and MCB operation times, and tracing circuits section by section until the fault is isolated. It requires the right instruments and the expertise to interpret the results correctly.
Intermittent faults — those that only appear sometimes — are the hardest category. They can be caused by a loose connection that only fails under load or heat, a cable that's been partially damaged and breaks contact when moved, or an appliance with a fault that only manifests at certain voltages. We use thermal imaging and resistance measurement under load conditions to catch faults that only appear intermittently.
A large proportion of Sussex properties contain wiring that has been extended, altered, or repaired over decades — sometimes without certification. PVC cables from the 1970s, rubber-insulated wiring from pre-war properties, and DIY work that bypassed the original circuit design are all common. Our engineers have extensive experience with older installations and know what to look for.
Sometimes a diagnostic visit reveals that the wiring installation needs more than a single repair — degraded insulation throughout, an overloaded consumer unit, or circuits that don't meet current regulations. We always explain what we find clearly and give you the options. There is never any pressure to proceed with work beyond what you've asked for.
Any notifiable electrical work carried out as a result of fault finding — including circuit repairs, consumer unit work, and rewires — is certified under Part P building regulations. As a Part P Approved contractor, we self-certify and register all notifiable work, giving you the correct certificate without involving a third party or additional fee.
